Damage & Repairs

We can help with water damage to the interior and exterior plaster damage prior to painting. We will restore the damaged section to its previous state or even better! Insurance repair work is welcome. Working in conjunction with Angus Middleton (Qualified Surveyor and Damp Proof Specialist) we have built an enviable reputation in repair and preservation of all types of property from private housing to commercial buildings. We can provide you with specialist advice and effective repair solutions in the following fields: damp proofing, waterproofing and wall stabilisation. Our aim is to complete projects on time and to an exceedingly high standard backed by a treatment guarantee you can rely on.

Rising Damp
Damp proofing is a protective process to ensure moisture cannot pass through the walls of a building to the interior. Damp proofing places a barrier in walls that prevents rising damp problems prevalent in modern homes. Rising Damp is unhealthy, unsightly and can lead to timber decay and heat loss. In addition it carries with it hygroscopic ground salts such as chlorides and nitrates which can absorb moisture from the atmosphere leading to wall dampness in conditions of high relative humidity. The cyclical nature of the crystallisation and re-wetting of these salts can break down internal plaster and ruin internal decorations.

Condensation
Perhaps the most common form of dampness in buildings, condensation can lead to peeling decorations, unhealthy living conditions and potentially risky mould growth. Lack of adequate ventilation and modern occupancy styles can lead to a build up of excessive humidity and moisture. This poor indoor air quality can lead to serious health issues for asthma and allergy sufferers and those with breathing difficulties.

Penetrating Damp
Generally affects older buildings. Typically, penetrating damp is caused by issues with the building or plumbing where a problem has allowed water to enter the property. It may look harmless however, penetrating damp, can be damaging to a property, even if it does not penetrate all the way through a wall, often leading to moss growth, increased heat loss and frost damage into masonry.

Replastering
This is required where plaster has to be renewed because of contamination with hygroscopic salts. It is vital that a special salt retardant additive is used to hold back any residual salts while still allowing the passage of water vapour. Standard plasters such as Carlite should not be used as many have hygroscopic content and failure to follow this instruction is the most common cause of continuing wall dampness after a remedial damp proof course has been installed.
